Brain Matters – Irene Walker

March 24, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Forgiving The Man Who Forgot: Grateful Gratitude Attitude

Irene Walker – Author of Forgiving The Man Who Forgot: Grateful Gratitude Attitude

Irene shares her emotional journey of her husband being diagnosed with young-onset dementia at the age of 51. She will relate how it felt to be thrust into the role of ‘caregiver’ and the stress and toll that dementia has taken on their family. Yet, during the course of this journey of ups and downs, she learned forgiveness, resiliency and gratitude. Through her positive attitude – and with a lot of support from her friends – she has learned to embrace each day and look forward to the future. Irene hopes that by sharing her experience, she can help others find the light in their own darkness.

Speaker Bio: Irene Walker has lived in Oakville, Ontario for the past 24 years. She is the mother of two children – a 19-year-old daughter and a 22-year-old son. She has been a realtor for the past 11 years. She has also previously worked in recruitment, sales and retail and has owned her own small businesses. At university and college, Irene studied finance and business. Last fall, Irene published her memoir, “Forgiving the Man Who Forgot: Grateful Gratitude Attitude”, chronicling the journey which began with her husband Robert’s diagnosis with young-onset dementia at the age of 51.
