DESCRIPTION: The progressive nature of dementia results in the family caregiver becoming less able to access support group meetings as they are often uncomfortable with leaving their loved one alone at home. Caregivers then become homebound in that they are unable to access these essential support services. The Care~2 Support Group is being offered to allow the homebound caregiver to attend a support group facilitated by an Alzheimer Society Registered Social Worker, while their loved one with dementia can be in attendance at a concurrently run social recreational program.
This two component support group is held at the Arbor Trace Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. The recreational portion will be delivered by Arbor Trace’s Recreation Director with assistance from ASLM volunteers.
